CONTINUOUS PROGRAM 20 > 27 NOV*

FROM HERE TO EAR exhibition Outerspace Gallery
Featuring sonic-sculptures and site-specific installations:

Bell
Tad Ermitaño
Bell is a sound installation by Tad Ermitaño that revisits the principle of transduction – the process of converting one type of energy into another – as a field of sonic exploration. Ermitaño’s work abandons the use of prefabricated speakers and surrounds the audience with a curved wall of metal suspended from the ceiling, which is then vibrated by electromagnets driven by high-voltage audio signals. Sounds ripple, bounce, and interfere within the wall before being released into the air. Bell, - a title that recalls both the object and the inventor of the speaker - imagines an alternate reality where the speaker is not as a transparent transmitter of sonic content, but an instrument of architectural proportions.

Insonoresonance
Sebastian Szczyrk (Paris) and Tengal, etc
Sebastian Szczyrk, the creator of the project, Un Escargot Vide? is a French artist whose visual research (drawings, illustrations, performances) to sound experimentations (CD, concerts, installations) reach a diffusive panorama. As the festival’s residency artist, he’ll conduct a month long field research on public memory, urban structures and sound ecology. Insonoresonance is a result of various collaborations with local artists in Manila, which are presented in various outputs: as an installation for an exhibition, a cd, and series of computer drawings, and urban space intervensions. The work questions the viewer’s perception - the truth of representation - outlining a journey from the initial visioning of a series of “audio memories” with synthetic images and ending up in an encounter with a physical interactive object which co-opts information flows, sound and light transmission.

The Differend Machine
Kenneth Feinstein (USA/Singapore)
A audio-reactive video installation inspired by the writings of Jean-François Lyotard. In his bookThe Differend, Lyotard writes, “I would like to call a differend [différend] the case where the plaintiff is divested of the means to argue and becomes for that reason a victim. If the addressor, the addressee, and the sense of testimony are neutralized, everything takes place as if there were not damages”.

Siren Shields*
HeHe (Paris)
Mixing wit and cutting-edge tech to critique systems of control and police presence by using the very same surveillance systems against it. Siren Shields v1.0 is a personal counter surveillance software that monitors police activity. It records video upon hearing the same frequency of a police siren, not just on the streets but also on television. With humor, HeHe turns the tables and returns control to citizens who in turn can monitor those who control us. This software is freely available for download. Made with Maxime Lethelier & Norbert Schnell. HeHe is Helen Evans, Heiko Hansen. website

*This site-specific installation will be situated on the streets of Metro Manila until the end of the year.

EVOL-KI SUM
Kawayan De Guia (Baguio)
Known for his uncanny take on Filipino jukeboxes, German-Filipino artist Kawayan De Guia will construct a pseudo-jukebox: combining circuit-bent techniques and hand-made machine music playing what barely resembles its original sound source – music from jeepneys. Artist comment: “My concept is simple, to basically transform your every day jeepney ride music which consists of mostly “love music” from the 70s into something mysteries dark and unrecognisable from its original form and structure. To do so I will layer tweak and what not i also intend to include stolen or found conversations along side with AM commentators and radio drama.”

STIGMA (Part of the CLIMAX Series) Martin Bricelj Baraga and Tengal
Dark Lady enters the Corridor. She walks and as she walks her steps become lighter and atmosphere darker. As she enters the room, she slowly takes her clothes of and slips into her white square bed. She feels another body in the room… The video installation projected on the surface of bed in Victoria court hotel, shows Stigma sleeping with her own reflection. On special channel of the hotel television, Stigma’s way to the room will be broadcasted in slow motion.
